The Mafia Section Guidelines [READ THIS FIRST] Tumblr_mzinqxnEhy1shhb3eo1_500
A game of wits, lies, and backstabbing!

Welcome to the Mafia Section! This section is for all users to participate in various Mafia games that are available in the forums! This thread is here to teach you how to play Mafia (for new players who don't know how to play), the section rules, and tips & tricks!

First things first, the section rules.

  1. A maximum of two Mafia games may go on at the same time. We don't want too many Mafia games in this section running at once. It would be too crazy and may lead to confusion if you're in, let's say, 5 games.
  2. Taking screenshots of your role and showing it to people may result in bans from upcoming Mafia games. You'll be banned for the next 2 Mafia games. This goes for all types of communication (PMs, Skype, Chatbox, etc).
  3. If you're hosting a Mafia game, please number the current Mafia thread. (Mafia #? : Setup Name)
  4. If you're hosting a Mafia game, you need a setup. Various setups can be found at epicmafia.com.
Note: However, if you want to make up your own setup, then call your setup "Custom Setup".
  5. If you're hosting a Mafia game, the Day and Night phases should last no longer than 48 hours. You can end the day & night phase early, if all night actions are sent to the host, or all of the votes are in for day phase before 48 hours.
  6. Please keep Mafia discussion in this section only.
  7. Read the OP (original post) of the Mafia game you're in to find out the rules and the roles.

How to play Mafia (for new players)!

1. If you haven't joined a Mafia game, then join one today! What are you waiting for? ;D
2. Once the game has enough players, the host will PM you your role. Be sure to read the role's abilities (you can check the mafia game OP thread for more info).
3. Once the host has sent all of the players their roles, then a Night phase begins. If you have a special role (also known as power role), then you may PM the host your night action. If you don't want to do anything for the night, then PM the host saying you're not going to do your night action.

  • If you get a Mafia role, then the host will tell you who your partner/partners is/are. You may talk to your fellow Mafia member(s) by communicating through PMs, Skype, etc., and talk about who to kill, what to do, and so on!

4. Once the host ends Night 1, you'll know which user was killed, and a Day phase begins.
5. During the Day Phase, you'll be able to post in the game thread and talk with your fellow town members and try to track down the Mafia!

  • If you're Mafia, then try and convince the town that you're a different role, so you won't be easily discovered!
  • If you don't post during Day phase, then people will be likely to grow suspicious of you and vote to lynch you.
  • Please Note: You don't have to use our suggestions but you can use your own strategy to convince the town to vote against suspicious person.

6. You'll be able to either vote for who to lynch or not lynch anyone at all. Be sure to read everyone's posts before coming to a decision.
7. After someone is lynched, the host will reveal their role and move on to the Night phase! If no lynch was voted, then you move on straight to the Night phase. You'll then repeat what you had to do so far starting from step 3 (except for sending roles, you already have roles now).

Some Tips & Tricks

The following are a few tips and tricks you can use to help you give the Town or Mafia an advantage!

1. PMs are your friend! If you don't screenshot your role then you're fine. PMs are important tools for Mafia games as you can secretly discuss strategies and theories you may have with other people!
2. Find some people to trust. This is important for users that don't want to mislynch or are having trouble on who to believe. Mafia can also try and trick another user into believing that they are innocent.
3. The Power of Skype. Since you can't talk in the chatbox about Mafia, and PMs might be unreliable for some, try and get a Skype discussion going. It's a faster and more helpful way to communicate in secret.
4. If you're not sure on what to do, then look back at previous games for more tips and tricks.

That pretty much covers it! If you have any additional questions, then please feel free to contact me, X, or any other staff member!

Guideline & Rule: How does lynching work?
Credits to the original 'How does Lynching work' guidelines & rules goes to Uzi.
Added additional information by Toadette.

Hey folks! Toady is here to explain things on 'How does lynching work' in every mafia games and the rules of lynching! This is guideline will be helpful to new & old mafia players alike and for people who are hosting!

As reminder: The day phase should not last no more than 48 hours. If anyone haven't vote after 48 hours limit, then the host will do a majority votes and that person is lynched by majority. If votes result a tie, then no one is lynched.

Currently, the person who is lynched is decided at the time of when the host sees the final vote cast. This allows for people who haven't vote and convince to certain people changing in votes while everyone else has already voted, causing Mafia members to be able to easily blitz out a hammer on someone who should have not been lynched. This is certainly not acceptable, it provides an unfair game advantage for the clever Mafia member who waits to blitz a lynch while his partner is being lynched by others.

From now on, once every single vote is in they cannot be changed (this is a rule).

This rule is being put in place to make you all much more wary of how fast you are to put up your votes. If your vote is in bold then it will be counted towards the lynch. I want you to understand that this is not to prevent you from lynching incorrectly, but it is there to make you think out your lynches instead of instantly voting in any intense situation.
